Hi, I just found your blog today, and while I don't have many words of wisdom I can sure sympatihze with you.

My oldest girl has literally vomited because of having to try corn. On more than one occassion. She's as picky as they come, her ENTIRE fruit and veggie repitore is Applesauce, bananas, pears - from a can only, and green beans - also from a can.

We've tried threats, motivational items, leaving her at the table until bedtime, losing privelages, etc.

There were many foods that I HATED as a child that I gladly eat now, and I hope thats the case with her.

Until then we'll keep putting them on the plate (they can't try them if they aren't there!) and asking that she at least give something a nibble each time. We call it the "no thank you bite." you taste it and if you don't like it then you are free to say "no thank you" to the rest.

When I can I sneak things into a sauce or a soup or something, but she's great at detecting those subtle differences too!

And I will continue to explain that not every food that is served will always be our favorite food. We don't have to LOVE LOVE LOVE everything we eat and trying new things won't hurt us.

Best of luck to you, and I'll keep reading!

Soccermom - I guess that's where my dilemma is. . .I don't want to traumatize her, but one bite of carrot doesn't seem too extreme. . .

Travis - But do your boys eat any green foods?

I have to say I was not and am not a picky eater, however when I was a child (back in the day) my parents were adament that we were not to leave the table without eating everything. If you didn't eat it before bed time, it was brought back out for breakfast. ( I have prev. blogged about this)

What I am trying to say is it was traumatizing. My suggestion is if your kid is getting all the nutrients they need without those things then don't push it.

my daughter has her own iron will. can't say if this is good advice but here is what we did: whatever they did not eat was left on the plate (in fridge/ reheated as needed) for the next snack or meal. if they were hungry they could have what was left on their plate. my son only had to eat his dinner for breakfast a couple of times. daughter…she could go 24 hours w/o eating before she would finally eat what had been left, and that was at preschool age. she is still pretty picky but does force down what we make for dinner. for whatever that's worth….
