Sightseeing, Jerseygirl Style

We have now been in Florida since Saturday night.

We are about to make our fourth trip to the grocery store.

Our condo in Naples is lovely but cooking for ourselves has sure required a lot of crap. Not that I mind going to the grocery store when there are lots of adults to corral the kids or an adult to leave the kids with. Usually I’m curious about grocery stores in other places, really I am. I mean, I think it’s very interesting that the one here has a British section with HobNobs and Spotted Dick (someday I will try Spotted Dick. Just because.) – I had no idea there were so many Brits here. I was also intrigued to find out how kind and nervous the deli workers were. Ours was all about asking us how thickly we wanted everything sliced and did we want to try it and was it okay to go over – I gather from this that people around here are very demanding. Which doesn’t exactly surprise me, since most of them seemed to wandering around the grocery store Monday afternoon. And by “wandering” I mean not caring that other people existed. Possibly a few were lost, though.

The store was nice enough as well as being fairly well-stocked. But it was no Stop and Shop. I LOVE Stop and Shop, mostly because it has an organic store brand which is often cheaper than the store brands at the other local grocery stores. (Okay, I also love their donuts. I’m only human.) Anyway, Stop and Shop now has this “Healthy Eating” label, so that you can look at something and – without having to read the label, which I may do a bit obsessively – figure out that it’s good for your family. Also, they have recipes and advice on their website.

Update: Have also tried the local “upscale” grocery store. Very nice, but still no Stop and Shop. Also, still not enough to make me homesick. I hope you all stay safe in those ice storms. I’ll be thinking of you while I’m in the pool.

That last line was just cruel.

  2. Lisa Says:

I have some Spotted Dick for you. That is NOT a euphemism for anything, really! I really bought a can since hubby’s cousin is spending a year in England and had not seen any yet. (I realized that sending it to him would not be cost effective. Shopping while tired should be a ticketable offense.) When you get home, I will split it with you! :)

You know what? I hated S&S. Funny, eh?

Travis – It’s much cooler now.

Lisa – That’s too funny. You must be so fun at the grocery store. :)

AFF – Really? What’s your favorite?
